Born in 1974 in Sevastopol, a Black sea city on the southern tip
of the Crimean Peninsula, Russia. Matvey began formally studying art at age 14, graduating from the Sevastopol Art School and Crimean Art Institute. In 1996, he was accepted into the Surikov State Art Institute, one of Russian’s premier art academies. Trained in monumental art and Russian
realism, he completed my BFA in 2000 and MFA in 2003.
Holding his first solo exhibition at age 18, he's participated in solo and group exhibitions in France, the US, and Russia.
He continues painting in watercolor and oil and is a scenic painter for film, television and theater (“Coraline”, “Paranorman”, tv series “Grimm”, musicals “Guys and dolls”, “Aladdin”).
In 2016 Matvey started “Skazka” which specializes in animating traditionally produced images."Skazka" produced watercolor animation in “Amy and Sophia”
